About this role

Engineers who thrive on tackling complex hardware-software integration challenges will find a natural home on this team. Waymo's Compute Team designs and delivers the custom high-performance silicon that powers the autonomous driving software stack across multiple vehicle platforms.

Daily responsibilities center on validating future silicon designs and software through advanced emulation platforms, building robust testbenches, and supporting the broader engineering organization with automation and continuous integration infrastructure. Operating out of Taipei and Hsinchu in Taiwan, the group collaborates directly with design, verification, and software peers to accelerate development timelines and debug sophisticated automotive architectures. Candidates who possess a strong foundation in hardware emulation, system-level debug, and cross-functional problem solving will succeed in advancing the safety and performance of autonomous mobility.

What you will do

  • Collaborate closely with design, verification, and software engineering teams to run simulations of future silicon designs and software on emulation platforms.
  • Design, implement, and optimize emulation testbenches that balance performance needs with hardware constraints and debug capabilities.
  • Write end-to-end synthesizable transactors to facilitate interaction with emulated designs through software APIs and C-DPI.
  • Triage and root-cause hardware and software failures by utilizing waveforms, software logging, and custom-built emulation monitors.
  • Assist with post-silicon bring-up, hardware debug, and component characterization.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure supporting the emulation user base, including tools for model building, regression testing, automation, continuous integration, data analysis, and training.

What you need

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrate at least five years of hands-on experience in silicon development.
  • Bring practical experience working with at least one major hardware emulation platform such as Palladium, Zebu, Veloce, Protium, or HAPS.
  • Show a high level of proficiency in emulation approaches including virtual prototyping, testbench acceleration, hybrid emulation, in-circuit emulation, QEMU, or VirtualBox.
  • Possess solid working knowledge of SystemVerilog alongside standard design verification methodologies.
  • Apply programming and scripting skills in C++, Python, or TCL for automation, test development, debug flows, and release processes.
  • Exhibit strong debugging and analytical problem-solving abilities that span both hardware and software domains.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AXI/AMBA, PCIe, DRAM, and Ethernet interfaces
  • Familiarity with performance and power analysis techniques
  • Experience with JTAG, DFT, UART, SPI, GPIO, and other test or low-speed interfaces
  • Knowledge of advanced design verification methods including coverage, gate-level simulation, assertions, and UVM
  • Understanding of bare metal programming, embedded systems, Linux internals, operating systems, boot loaders, drivers, and firmware

Benefits

  • Discretionary annual bonus program
  • Equity incentive plan
  • Company benefits program
