Senior Software Engineer, Placer Intelligence

This engineer will lead the architecture and full-stack implementation of AI-powered business intelligence tools, integrating large language models and real-time streaming interfaces. The position exists to scale the company's location analytics platform by building production-ready GenAI capabilities that maintain strict data privacy standards. Ideal candidates bring extensive software engineering experience, a hands-on approach to building AI features, and the product sense needed to turn complex requirements into reliable technical plans.
What you will do
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and customers to translate vague requirements into clear technical plans.
- Design, build, and ship production features across the full stack including APIs, data models, services, and user interfaces.
- Implement AI-powered capabilities such as LLM integrations, retrieval systems, agents, and tool-calling flows with scoped permissions.
- Establish evaluation frameworks from real user questions to measure prompt and model changes before deployment.
- Monitor production systems, track AI cost and latency, debug from real traces, and maintain reliability.
- Leverage AI coding tools as a core part of the workflow while owning code quality, tests, and overall system reliability.
- Raise the engineering bar across the team through code reviews and improving shared workflows.
What you need
- Bring 10 or more years of software engineering experience shipping customer-facing products in production environments.
- Demonstrate strong full-stack fundamentals using Python with FastAPI, React, TypeScript, and relational databases with SQL.
- Design reliable, fast, and secure production systems with solid data modeling and API design skills.
- Possess hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered features covering context engineering, evaluations, and failure handling.
- Maintain an AI-native workflow that utilizes tests as a safety net and verifies agent outputs effectively.
- Show strong product sense with the ability to understand user problems and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
