About this role
Engineers who thrive in ambiguous problem spaces and enjoy collaborating across multiple time zones will find a strong professional home on this platform team. Planet operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, combining hardware design, data processing, and software engineering into a single cloud-based geospatial platform. The engineering group builds scalable distributed systems that allow commercial, environmental, and humanitarian users to access and analyze daily satellite imagery and derived products.
Team members focus on developing and deploying high-availability APIs and data access pipelines using modern cloud infrastructure. The group values strong asynchronous communication, open-source standards, and adherence to site reliability engineering principles. Someone who brings solid software fundamentals, comfort with modern containerized environments, and a collaborative mindset will succeed in driving these technical goals forward.
