About this role
Developing and deploying imagery access and analysis capabilities forms the core of daily engineering work at Planet, where scalable systems serve customers browsing data catalogs, streaming tile services, and orchestrating geospatial analysis. Operating within distributed Platform teams across Europe and North America, engineers build and maintain performant large-scale services and highly-available APIs using Go, Python, Java, Postgres, and Kubernetes on major cloud platforms like Google Cloud. Success in the role requires strong collaborative communication across multiple time zones, adherence to Site Reliability Engineering culture, and a hybrid working arrangement from the Berlin office three days per week.
Team members design production code, participate in code reviews, utilize AI tooling throughout development, and share on-call rotation duties. Individuals who thrive here possess solid software engineering fundamentals, navigate ambiguous problem spaces independently, and embrace asynchronous communication to drive cross-functional alignment.
