About this role

Weedmaps seeks a remote Senior Software Engineer to build internal AI systems and agents within the United States. This full-time role suits an experienced developer who wants to design autonomous coding agents and retrieval platforms for business operations.

Role Overview

Weedmaps is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the AI Platform team to build the operational AI systems and context layers that drive company workflows. The position involves developing autonomous coding agents, expanding internal Model Context Protocol servers, and integrating Snowflake semantic layers with knowledge graphs. Candidates will collaborate closely with Developer Experience, Data, and product engineering departments.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate production AI agents, including an autonomous coding agent that manages Jira and Slack tasks, creates pull requests, and resolves CI failures.
Implement retrieval and context layers utilizing embeddings, semantic search, knowledge-graph modeling, and Snowflake semantic layer integrations.
Extend internal Model Context Protocol servers with shared skills and tools for cross-team use.
Establish evaluation frameworks through offline test sets and online metrics to govern model, prompt, and retrieval releases.
Optimize cost and latency by routing workloads to efficient models, applying caching and structured outputs, and monitoring AWS Bedrock expenditures.
Protect agents against prompt injection, memory poisoning, and excessive permissions via least-privilege tool access and auditable actions.
Instrument tracing and logging systems, participate in on-call rotations, evaluate new tooling, write design documentation, and mentor team members.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 6 years of professional software development experience, including end-to-end production service ownership.
At least 1 year of hands-on experience deploying LLM-powered features or production agents, covering tool calling, prompt design, and structured outputs.
Experience developing retrieval systems encompassing embeddings, vector or hybrid search, chunking, and ranking metrics.
Strong proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or Ruby, with adaptability across polyglot codebases.
Experience utilizing major cloud platforms such as AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
Demonstrated track record of measuring build outcomes via evaluations, A/B tests, or comparative metrics.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with AWS Bedrock and scaling cost and latency management.
Experience with Model Context Protocol servers or alternative agent tool frameworks.
Background in knowledge graphs, semantic layers, dbt metrics, or graph databases.
Development of developer workflow agents utilizing GitHub Actions, Jira, or Slack.
Knowledge of LLM security practices, prompt-injection defense, sandboxing, and red-teaming.
Entity matching or classification experience at scale using machine learning and LLM reasoning.
Exposure to Ruby on Rails, Elixir, or Node.js services.
Marketplace, e-commerce, or regulated industry background.
