Role Overview

Uberall is looking for a senior engineer to own the JVM platform that the rest of engineering builds upon, with the core goal of helping internal teams ship LLM-powered agents smoothly. Working within the BASE team, this position involves creating reusable libraries, Spring Boot starters, templates, and shared building blocks. Responsibilities include designing message routing, tool exposure, memory and state handling, human-in-the-loop workflows, MCP integration, and evaluation hooks.

Key Responsibilities

Own the design of shared libraries, Spring Boot starters, and templates, establishing the architecture, APIs, and trade-offs for internal teams.
Build JVM-side foundations for agents, including message routing, state management, tool exposure, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
Drive technical work across Kotlin and Spring Boot services as well as client libraries.
Define evaluation and guardrail strategies to measure agent quality, reliability, and catch regressions.
Set patterns and standards for building agentic systems while guiding and bringing other teams along.
Maintain a clear map of the wider ecosystem, connecting systems, domains, and teams to make informed foundational decisions.
Drive adoption, mentor teams, review code and designs, and maintain documentation to elevate the developer experience.

Requirements

5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of building libraries, frameworks, or platform components.
Deep experience with Kotlin and/or Java on the JVM, Spring Boot, and strong API and library design instincts.
Demonstrated technical leadership through setting direction and justifying architectural trade-offs.
Genuine drive to lead on agentic AI, orchestration, evaluation, and guardrails.
Ability to turn open-ended or ambiguous problems into well-scoped designs.
Systems thinking capabilities to understand how company products, domains, and teams connect.
Good cross-team communication skills to collaborate effectively with multiple engineering groups.
Working familiarity with AWS or another cloud provider alongside Kubernetes.

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience building agents and agent graphs, such as multi-step orchestration and tool use.
Practical Python skills to prototype and read agent-side tooling code.
Experience defining evaluation, experiment-tracking, or observability strategies for ML or agent systems.
Distributed systems background including messaging, queues, gRPC, and event-driven architectures.
Deeper AWS and infrastructure-as-code experience.
Experience growing a platform or developer experience practice with golden paths and standards.
Contributions to or maintenance of open-source libraries or frameworks.
