Senior Software Engineer, AI Experience
About this role
You will design, implement, and deliver Box AI chat and agentic frontend experiences across web and mobile applications, spending roughly eighty percent of your time on frontend development and twenty percent on backend collaboration. The AI Experiences team builds core user interfaces that bring Box AI to life across Box products, helping customers manage content and transform workflows. This role exists to lead the delivery of cross-platform AI features with speed and technical judgment, requiring an engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments, ships weekly to production, and actively uses AI coding tools in daily workflows.
What you will do
- Own or co-own the design, implementation, and delivery of Box AI chat and agentic frontend experiences across all web and mobile applications.
- Shape and inform requirements alongside Product Managers and UX Designers by making trade-offs quickly and helping define specs.
- Ship weekly to production with daily pull requests and incremental feature delivery within one-week sprint cycles.
- Define cross-platform best practices for new feature development across web, iOS, and Android to establish scalable standards.
- Uphold accessibility, performance, and quality standards through engineering, code reviews, and daily pull request evaluations.
- Translate rapidly evolving AI model capabilities into meaningful customer value with prompt frontend adjustments.
- Partner with backend engineering teams to define interfaces, contracts, and delivery milestones while participating in an on-call rotation.
What you need
- Have at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on front-end development.
- Bring deep expertise in React, with React Native serving as a strong plus.
- Maintain a full-stack understanding with comfort in backend APIs, system design, and defining interfaces.
- Actively use AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex as a core part of the development workflow.
- Demonstrate a track record of shipping significant changes across multiple components with minimal guidance.
- Bring experience with CI/CD pipelines, A/B testing, and feature flag-driven development.

What is the salary range for this position?
The base salary range for Redwood City is $198,500 to $248,000 USD. Actual base salary depends on factors such as knowledge, skill level, experience, and work location, and the role is also eligible for equity and benefits.

The primary focus is on frontend architecture in React and React Native while partnering closely with backend engineering. Active use of AI coding tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex is a hard requirement for the daily development workflow.
