About this role

Software delivery at Datarails involves moving beyond traditional development by leveraging AI coding agents as a core part of the daily workflow for implementation, testing, debugging, and automation. The team builds a cloud-based financial planning and analysis platform that automates manual reporting processes for small and medium-sized businesses while allowing end-users to continue working in Excel. Engineers take full ownership of product delivery by partnering directly with the product department to turn requirements into production-ready solutions, making independent technical decisions, and ensuring that AI-generated code meets high standards for quality, security, and performance.

This role exists to scale SaaS product development through AI-native practices, requiring engineers to review, challenge, and validate technical outputs rather than writing every line of code manually. Ideal candidates possess a strong product mindset, solid system architecture fundamentals, and hands-on experience with AI coding tools. Professionals who thrive here enjoy taking end-to-end responsibility from initial design through production monitoring across backend systems, integrations, and occasional frontend tasks.

What you will do

  • Own complete product features from initial requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
  • Collaborate closely with Product to translate business problems into pragmatic technical solutions and clear execution plans.
  • Integrate AI coding agents into daily workflows to accelerate implementation, debugging, testing, and automation.
  • Review, challenge, and refine AI-generated code to guarantee correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Drive independent technical decisions, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and communicate them clearly.
  • Contribute across backend services, frontend tasks, QA, infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines as needed to ship features.
  • Investigate and resolve complex production issues and performance bottlenecks.

What you need

  • Hold a BSc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Bring 7 or more years of professional experience building and shipping production software with end-to-end feature ownership.
  • Demonstrate strong system design fundamentals and a history of building scalable cloud-based SaaS systems.
  • Possess a solid understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, microservices, asynchronous programming, and testing methodologies.
  • Show hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or GitHub Copilot.
  • Exhibit a strong product mindset capable of balancing technical decisions with business priorities.

Nice to have

  • Experience with modern frontend technologies, particularly Angular.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Helm.
  • Familiarity with Celery, RabbitMQ, event-driven architectures, or streaming systems.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with QA automation and end-to-end testing.

Skills and tech stack

Questions candidates ask

What technologies will I be using?

Python and Django serve as the primary technologies for this role, though engineers take responsibility for whatever is required to deliver a feature. You will also use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or GitHub Copilot as a core part of your daily workflow.

What does end-to-end ownership mean for this position?

You will own features from requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring. Success is measured by the quality and impact of what you ship rather than the amount of code you write.

How is AI used in the development process?

AI coding agents are integrated across development, testing, debugging, documentation, and automation. Engineers review, challenge, and validate the AI-generated solutions to ensure the shipped code is secure, scalable, and maintainable.

What is the team and product focus?

The team builds a cloud-based financial planning and analysis platform designed for small and medium-sized businesses to automate manual reporting processes. You will work directly with the Product department to translate business problems into pragmatic technical solutions.
