Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Vulcan (AI Security product)
About this role
The team at AIFT builds Vulcan, a cybersecurity solution for generative artificial intelligence that provides red and blue team services for compliance and security. This practitioner will own the deployment, migration, and troubleshooting of on-premise Kubernetes environments for enterprise and government clients, working directly within secure, airgapped data centers where remote access is unavailable. The position serves as the technical authority on-site to execute complex infrastructure changes and diagnose failures independently under pressure.
Day-to-day work involves managing the full infrastructure stack end-to-end, including Kubernetes control planes, PostgreSQL replication, distributed storage, and centralized logging. The person in this role will also communicate technical status and remediation plans directly to client stakeholders. An ideal candidate possesses deep systems understanding, strong autonomous problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to travel to restricted-access client facilities on short notice.
What you will do
- Plan and execute on-premise Kubernetes cluster deployments, upgrades, and infrastructure migrations within production and airgapped environments.
- Diagnose and resolve system failures independently while working on-site at client data centers.
- Manage the complete infrastructure stack including Kubernetes planes, PostgreSQL replication, distributed storage, private container registries, and centralized logging.
- Test and validate deployment automation scripts thoroughly in staging labs before executing changes in client-facing settings.
- Communicate deployment status, technical failures, and remediation plans clearly to client stakeholders on-site.
- Travel to secure and restricted-access client facilities as required to provide direct deployment and go-live support.
- Author structured runbooks, decision trees, and incident reports for team use during high-pressure situations.
What you need
- Five to six years of hands-on professional experience with Kubernetes in production, including prior work with on-premise deployments.
- Deep familiarity with etcd internals, covering quorum, peer membership, and failure recovery procedures.
- Demonstrated experience with kubeadm-based cluster bootstrapping and certificate management.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL replication, Linux networking fundamentals, and container registries.
- Strong command of the Linux command line alongside bash scripting and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work autonomously in high-pressure environments without reliance on live remote support.
- Track record of validating modifications in test environments prior to production implementation.
Nice to have
- Prior consulting, systems integration, or professional services experience on enterprise or government accounts
- Experience working in the GCC or Middle East region, or with government-sector clients
- Security background with an understanding of access controls, credential handling, and airgapped operational discipline
- Experience with distributed storage systems such as SeaweedFS, Ceph, or MinIO
- Familiarity with GPU-enabled Kubernetes nodes using the NVIDIA device plugin and container toolkit
