About this role

Planet builds and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical data through a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. The role exists to manage the deployment, contracts, and operational readiness required to autonomously track spacecraft and bring substantial daily datasets back to Earth.

Candidates who thrive in this environment are organized problem-solvers capable of working with little or no supervision while balancing infrastructure projects, budgets, and cross-functional contract lifecycles. You will coordinate closely with external hosting providers, legal teams, spacecraft operators, and mission control engineers to ensure technical velocity aligns with organizational objectives.

  • Lead the strategic deployment and operational readiness of the commercial ground station network.

  • Partner with leadership and technical leads to build, forecast, and manage the annual operations budget.
  • Provide consistent updates on project milestones and operational status to technical leads, finance partners, and executive directorship.
  • Facilitate recurring sprint planning sessions and communicate alignment between technical velocity and organizational objectives.

What you need

  • Bring 6 or more years of relevant work experience to the position.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrate previous Technical Program Management or Construction Management experience.
  • Exhibit excellence in organizational management and high-volume task prioritization.
  • Possess basic programming skills in scripting and data analysis.
  • Maintain a willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with little or no supervision alongside an innate curiosity.
