About this role

Developing machine learning models, designing multi-sensor fusion architectures, and optimizing perception algorithms for real-time robotic platforms fill the daily schedule for this team. Engineers in this group build the foundational systems that allow autonomous machines to understand physical environments, transforming raw data from cameras, LiDAR, and radar into reliable spatial representations. Pronto AI operates in the commercial autonomous vehicle sector, deploying production-ready technology for industrial sites like mines and quarries rather than remaining in permanent research and development.

Pronto AI seeks a Senior Perception Engineer to design object detection, segmentation, and tracking pipelines that handle challenging real-world operating conditions. Ideal candidates bring solid software engineering skills in Python or C++, hands-on experience with embodied robotic systems, and a strong background in 3D geometry or multi-modal fusion. Professionals who thrive in this environment enjoy tackling long-tail failure cases, bridging the gap between offline training metrics and physical system behavior, and collaborating across AI research, hardware, and software teams.

What you will do

  • Design, train, and deploy machine learning models for perception within autonomous systems.
  • Develop algorithms for object detection, classification, segmentation, tracking, and scene understanding.
  • Build systems for 3D perception and geometric reasoning using cameras, LiDAR, and radar sensors.
  • Develop multi-sensor and multi-modal fusion approaches to combine complementary sensor data into robust environmental representations.
  • Build temporal models that reason about objects, motion, trajectories, and environmental changes over time.
  • Optimize perception models and systems for deployment on resource-constrained or latency-sensitive robotic platforms.
  • Investigate deployed system failures and translate findings into improvements across models, data, and architecture.

What you need

  • Bring three to five years of relevant experience working with perception systems, computer vision, and machine learning models.
  • Demonstrate strong software engineering skills utilizing Python and C++.
  • Possess experience developing perception systems for autonomous vehicles, robotics, drones, or industrial automation.
  • Show familiarity with camera, LiDAR, radar, IMU, or other robotic sensor modalities.
  • Apply knowledge of 3D geometry, coordinate transformations, calibration, localization, or state estimation.
  • Display experience deploying machine learning models into real-time or safety-critical systems.
  • Have experience working with large-scale perception datasets and training infrastructure.

Nice to have

  • Publications or significant research contributions in computer vision, machine learning, robotics, or related fields

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account / Health Savings Account Options
  • 401(k) and equity awards
  • Sick Time, Unlimited Flexible Time Off, and Paid Holidays
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit Plan
