About this role

Developing and deploying advanced machine learning algorithms leveraging deep learning architectures and classical signal processing occupies the daily focus of this position. The person in this role will own the entire development pipeline from signal processing to model scaling, while designing robust methods for fusing time-series data from sensors like PPG, motion, and temperature. Operating within the Future Physiology team, the group builds next-generation health metrics that translate noisy physiological inputs into reliable insights for millions of users.

Created to advance Oura's upcoming product features, the position exists to bridge the gap between hardware constraints and scalable software delivery. Ideal candidates possess a strong grasp of the underlying physiology paired with engineering intuition, allowing them to navigate ambiguity and handle messy, real-world data effectively.

What you will do

  • Take ownership of the complete machine learning and algorithm development lifecycle, handling everything from initial signal processing to training, evaluation, and model scaling.
  • Build and deploy sophisticated algorithms that combine deep learning architectures and classical signal processing techniques to extract health insights across varied populations.
  • Design robust sensor fusion methods for multimodal time-series data from sources like PPG, motion, temperature, and spectroscopy while mitigating motion artifacts.
  • Utilize large-scale cloud datasets for model refinement while engaging in hands-on work with prototype sensors and evaluation kits to assess real-world hardware performance.
  • Partner closely with hardware, firmware, software, and data infrastructure teams to align feature goals, respect the physical limits of the ring, and integrate algorithms smoothly.
  • Communicate technical results and complex concepts clearly to senior stakeholders to inform future research direction and roadmap planning.

What you need

  • Bring five to seven or more years of professional experience focusing on machine learning, biosignal processing, sensor fusion, and analyzing real-world multimodal time-series data.
  • Demonstrate deep proficiency in Python alongside practical experience with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow and scientific computing libraries like NumPy, SciPy, pandas, and matplotlib.
  • Possess a strong foundational understanding of the physiology driving the recorded signals and engineering intuition for solving complex, noisy problems.
  • Show familiarity with scalable data systems alongside a proven track record of moving machine learning models out of lab environments and into production.
  • Hold an advanced degree such as a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering, Signal Processing, Applied Math, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrate comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced iteration while taking complete accountability for the algorithm journey from feasibility testing to production.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience working with consumer health products, wearable sensors, smart rings, or digital health applications.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends and family
  • Flexible working hours and remote working arrangements
