Senior Infrastructure Solutions Engineer
About this role
Scaling engineering organizations often struggle with fragmented infrastructure and duplicated efforts, a challenge this role directly addresses by making internal platforms easier to adopt. Operating within a small, multi-disciplinary team, the engineer will act as a bridge between platform builders and internal engineering consumers, unblocking teams through hands-on technical engagements and durable architectural solutions.
Day-to-day responsibilities involve diagnosing infrastructure roadblocks, executing migrations from legacy systems, and crafting reusable tools that prevent recurring technical hurdles. The ideal candidate finds motivation in the success of peer teams, combining solid operational depth with strong interpersonal skills to guide engineers toward standardized, paved-road infrastructure.
What you will do
- Lead end-to-end technical engagements by partnering directly with engineering teams to diagnose, unblock, and resolve complex infrastructure challenges.
- Execute critical migrations by developing reference implementations, tooling, and guidance to transition teams off deprecated systems seamlessly.
- Act as the primary technical contact for new teams onboarding to Planet’s core infrastructure to accelerate platform adoption.
- Consolidate disparate solutions into well-supported, paved-road infrastructure offerings.
- Design re-usable libraries, Terraform modules, and Helm charts to solve recurring technical patterns across teams.
- Implement instrumentation and attribution tooling to provide visibility into infrastructure cost, usage, and adoption.
- Synthesize engineering feedback and common pain points to influence the broader infrastructure roadmap.
What you need
- Six or more years of professional experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering, including experience leading at least one cross-team project or migration.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Possess a background in technical enablement, developer experience, or solutions architecture with a focus on internal developer productivity.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience operating and maintaining production infrastructure environments.
- Bring deep expertise with Kubernetes orchestration, including workload optimization and operations.
- Have working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other public cloud providers, including its compute, storage, quota, and capacity mode.
- Show experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD, alongside CI/CD pipelines.
- Exhibit proficiency in software development using Go or Python, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with large-scale block storage operated at fleet scale rather than per-service.
- Experience driving large-scale migrations or deprecations that required buy-in from teams outside your reporting line.
- Experience in a consulting-adjacent engineering role applied to an internal platform.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, batch and job-execution systems, or large-scale data processing pipelines.
- Experience defining and measuring platform adoption through developer-productivity instrumentation, NPS, or internal marketshare.
Benefits
- Paid time off including vacation, holidays and company-wide days off
- Employee Wellness Program
- Home Office Reimbursement
- Monthly Phone and Internet Reimbursement
- Tuition Reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning
- Equity and Volunteering Paid Time Off

Questions candidates ask
What is the remote work policy for this role?
This is a full-time, remote position based in Germany, the Netherlands or Slovenia. If located near a Planet office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week.
What is the salary range for this position?
The expected starting gross salary range for the Slovenia location is €57.700 to €72.100 EUR. Individual placement within this range is determined objectively based on gender-neutral criteria such as your skills, qualifications, and professional experience.
What kind of team will I be working with?
Infra Solutions is a small, multi-disciplinary team consisting of engineers who are as comfortable operating a system as building one. They sit between the teams who build Planet's platform capabilities and the teams who need them.
What does a typical engagement look like in this role?
Most work takes the shape of a hands-on engagement with a team that is blocked, mid-migration, or arriving on the platform for the first time. From there you own it end to end, including the diagnosis, the hands-on fix, and the durable artifact that stops the next team hitting the same wall.
