Sift is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for the Machine Learning platform team to lead the training pipelines, feature infrastructure, and evaluation systems supporting over 700 customers. Role Overview

In this role, the candidate will lead and scale a team of machine learning platform engineers and data scientists. Responsibilities include defining the strategic roadmap, ensuring reliable execution, and driving a measurable reduction in technical debt across the ML infrastructure. The manager will partner cross-competently with product, core infrastructure, and data science teams while maintaining hands-on technical depth to review designs and unblock complex architectural challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Own the execution, roadmap, and overall quality of systems that train, evaluate, and serve machine learning models in production.
Stay technically engaged by reviewing designs, resolving difficult engineering bottlenecks, and making credible architectural decisions.
Partner directly with Sales, Solutions Engineering, and strategic enterprise customers on technical proof-of-value engagements.
Drive a sustained reduction in technical debt without interrupting ongoing feature delivery.
Mature offline and online evaluation frameworks to provide fast, trustworthy signals on model quality.
Identify manual, repeatable workflows across the machine learning lifecycle and implement robust automation.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, Core Infrastructure, and Customer Success to align platform investments with business priorities.

Requirements

8+ years of overall hands-on engineering experience.
4+ years of experience managing software, data science, or machine learning engineering teams.
Background managing data scientists or possessing in-depth knowledge of data science principles.
Deep technical fluency in production-scale machine learning systems, including feature engineering, model training pipelines, serving, and evaluation.
Proven track record of leading technical customer engagements and proof-of-value sessions with enterprise clients.
Demonstrated success in reducing technical debt within live, high-traffic production environments.
Experience designing or scaling evaluation frameworks for machine learning models.
History of identifying manual engineering processes and driving automation.
Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering talent.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree / PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Experience working with large-scale distributed machine learning infrastructure such as Spark, Flink, or Databricks.
Familiarity with the trust and safety, risk, or fraud detection domains.
Hands-on infrastructure experience with AWS or GCP.
Experience utilizing streaming architectures like Kafka alongside containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with AI coding assistants like Claude Code to accelerate development workflows.
