About this role
Professionals who thrive at the intersection of architecture, software integration, and advanced manufacturing will find a natural home in this position. Iconcareers is seeking a Senior Design Technologist to build the data structures and tooling that incorporate building products into mainstream CAD and BIM platforms like Revit. Working within an established product roadmap, the team focuses on translating complex design intent into compatible formats while increasingly deploying large language models and agentic tooling inside the design environment.
Day-to-day work centers on owning the execution and evolution of digital design integrations, custom plugins, and automation scripts. The person in this role will act as a bridge between design workflows and software development, defining rulesets, establishing quality assurance protocols, and partnering with technical leads across various building science domains. Success in this capacity requires deep familiarity with architectural platforms, solid software delivery habits, and the technical communication skills needed to bridge the gap between digital design and physical construction technologies.
What you will do
- Act as a working-level subject matter expert on digital design platforms and workflows to inform feature and product decisions.
- Manage the execution and day-to-day evolution of digital design integrations, families, plugins, scripts, and platform-specific data structures.
- Develop and maintain LLM-driven or agentic tooling within design environments such as BIM plugins and internal automation scripts.
- Define design rulesets and BIM input parameters for the software team while resolving escalated edge cases.
- Establish quality assurance and validation protocols for released design integrations, covering versioned releases and regression testing.
- Review building product requirements from domain technical leads to identify necessary tooling revisions and resolve documentation gaps.
- Partner with the software team on features requiring deep BIM and computational geometry input by contributing technical specifications.
What you need
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Computer Science, or a related field with a strong technical focus.
- Demonstrate at least eight years of related experience in BIM-driven design, design-to-fabrication workflows, or construction technology platforms, with scaled requirements for advanced degrees.
- Exhibit advanced proficiency in Revit and complementary BIM or CAD authoring tools alongside a track record of shipping production integrations.
- Show documented software delivery experience, including deploying internal tools or platform features according to a release cadence.
- Possess a strong understanding of construction and design industry practices, encompassing structural systems and architectural sequencing.
- Bring a proven ability to translate architectural and building science requirements into technical specifications for software collaboration.
Nice to have
- Depth in computational geometry and BIM interoperability including NURBS, BREP, or IFC schema authoring
- Experience productizing construction elements and translating bespoke design intent into reproducible components
- Background in 3D printing, robotics, or advanced manufacturing technologies applied to construction
- Exposure to physical-to-digital data pipelines like LiDAR-to-model workflows or computer vision
- Exposure to AI-augmented engineering tooling evaluated within specific design workflows
