Senior Data Scientist, AI Enablement
About this role
Oscar Health needs a Senior Data Scientist to solve the challenge of unlocking insights from vast healthcare data by building AI-powered analytical systems and pipelines. Operating within the data team, this person will design and maintain self-serve data tools that allow internal stakeholders to independently access information. The work sits at the intersection of data science, data engineering, and artificial intelligence, turning ambiguous workflows into well-engineered, LLM-augmented solutions.
Reporting to the Director of Data Science, the individual will take projects from conception to launch while collaborating closely with AI engineers, software engineers, and business stakeholders. Ideal candidates possess a strong engineering background paired with data science expertise, and thrive in an independent, builder-focused environment where they can drive technical roadmaps forward.
What you will do
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven self-serve analytics products, ranging from initial prototypes to robust production systems.
- Experiment rapidly with new models, techniques, and tools, selecting the best approaches based on measured quality, reliability, performance, and cost.
- Establish evaluations and monitoring for analytical accuracy, generated queries, and AI-generated insights, including handling ambiguous questions and unsupported conclusions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with AI engineers, software engineers, and business leaders to understand user needs and integrate data workflows into software applications.
- Help shape the company's technical direction and roadmap for AI-enabled analytics while complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
What you need
- Bring at least four years of experience in industry or other quantitative technical fields, which may include academia.
- Possess a minimum of three years of working experience using SQL and Python to query, manipulate, and analyze data.
- Have at least two years of experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, and generative AI concepts applied to practical use cases.
- Demonstrate experience building data models, applying advanced analytics methods, statistical modeling, and data processing.
- Show a track record of designing, building, and maintaining production data pipelines or systems using software engineering best practices like version control, code review, and testing.
- Act as a primary driver of technical projects, operating independently to scope and deliver solutions end-to-end.
Nice to have
