Senior Data Analytics Engineer
About this role
This role is designed for an experienced engineer who bridges deep data analysis with robust software engineering practices. The team at MariaDB plc is responsible for building and maintaining the core data infrastructure that supports applications used globally, which touches billions of daily users. The Senior Data Analytics Engineer will not focus solely on reporting; instead, this individual will be responsible for engineering the entire analytics stack, designing reliable data pipelines, and creating internal tools that translate complex data into actionable business insights. This position exists to ensure that data flows efficiently from source systems into the warehouse and that sophisticated analyses are consistently delivered to stakeholders.
The successful candidate will own the entire analytical lifecycle, starting from defining the necessary business questions through to deploying scalable solutions. This involves designing data architecture, writing complex queries, and developing automation tools. The ideal candidate is self-sufficient, driven to improve their processes, and adept at using modern AI tools to enhance their engineering output. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on end-to-end ownership and enjoys communicating technical findings to a broad audience.
Candidates who excel in combining strong engineering fundamentals with analytical depth and a proactive approach to problem-solving will find this opportunity valuable. It is for individuals who want to build foundational systems that directly impact how MariaDB operates and how its users interact with its services.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain analytical pipelines and reporting solutions utilizing BigQuery and MariaDB.
- Write sophisticated and performant SQL queries to extract meaningful insights from large-scale datasets.
- Leverage AI and machine learning features to enhance existing analytics workflows and generate smarter outputs.
- Develop internal tooling and automation solutions using Python and FastAPI frameworks.
- Communicate complex data findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive decisions.
- Document the data architecture, lineage, and information flow across all systems.
- Collaborate with teams to analyze business processes and design improvements driven by data insights.
What you need
- Possess at least seven years of professional experience in data analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrate expert-level SQL proficiency, including advanced use of joins, window functions, and CTEs, with strong experience in BigQuery and MariaDB.
- Have strong skills in Python and/or JavaScript, enabling the ability to build pipelines, internal tools, and APIs rather than just simple scripts.
- Require a deep understanding of data architecture, including database structuring, data flow mechanics, and schema evolution.
- Must have hands-on experience applying AI/ML concepts, staying current with LLMs and generative AI for practical application.
- Proficiency in using AI-powered development tools such as Windsurf, Gemini, Claude, or Cursor to increase output.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills necessary to translate complex analytical results into clear, actionable advice.
- Be self-sufficient, capable of owning tasks end-to-end without constant direction, and continuously seeking self-improvement.
