About this role

This remote, full-time position is ideal for a software engineer with strong experience in building production software and large language models who wants to empower customer experience teams using artificial intelligence. This role suits professionals skilled in Python, TypeScript, and cloud infrastructure who thrive in an environment utilizing coding agents for daily development tasks.

Role Overview

GitLab seeks a Senior CX Platform Engineer to help customer experience teams integrate artificial intelligence into their daily operations. Operating remotely on a full-time basis, this software engineering position involves designing agentic workflows, building Model Context Protocol servers, and maintaining infrastructure using tools such as Claude Code and GitLab Duo Agent Platform. Team members are expected to incorporate AI into their daily workflows to drive efficiency and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Utilize coding agents like Claude Code and GitLab Duo as the primary development environment for planning, implementation, testing, and documentation.
Build and maintain the team agent harness, including conventions, skills, hooks, and continuous integration checks.
Ship agents and multi-step workflows for account research, success planning, status reporting, and customer onboarding.
Construct Model Context Protocol servers and connectors for governed access to enterprise systems like Salesforce, Gainsight, Snowflake, and others.
Evolve the CX Application Platform gateway, AWS infrastructure, Terraform configurations, and application portfolio.
Write production-quality Python and TypeScript through continuous integration and delivery pipelines with proper testing and observability.
Prototype solutions rapidly with internal customer success, professional services, and training teams.
Contribute upstream to GitLab, share product feedback, and mentor engineers and non-engineers on agentic development.

Requirements

Experience building and operating production software from ambiguity to production, choosing reusable platform solutions, and designing for handoff.
Daily, hands-on use of coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or GitLab Duo on production work.
Experience building with large language models beyond chat, including tool use, Model Context Protocol servers, agent loops, and evaluation design.
Strong Python skills with FastAPI or Flask and TypeScript skills with Vue or React.
Hands-on experience with AWS ECS, RDS, and Lambda, Terraform, Docker, and single sign-on applications.
Experience integrating enterprise systems through REST and GraphQL APIs, along with fluency in Git and CI/CD workflows.
Experience translating non-engineering workflows into technical plans and writing clear asynchronous design documents.

Nice to Have

Agent harness customization and GitLab Development Kit or Duo Agent Platform custom agent publishing.
Enterprise agent governance and data controls.
Familiarity with customer success, professional services, or learning platforms such as Salesforce, Gainsight, Kantata, or Thought Industries.
Experience with Snowflake or similar data warehouses.
Technical writing, public speaking, or open-source contributions regarding agentic development.
