About this role

Dragos is seeking a Senior AI/ML Engineer to join the engineering team in the United States to apply established machine learning techniques to critical infrastructure cybersecurity data. This position is well-suited for a software professional with a strong data pipeline background who wants to protect industrial control systems and operational technology.

Role Overview

The Machine Learning Application Engineer role rests at the intersection of applied machine learning and data engineering. Selected candidates take existing model types and deploy them directly into product workflows and data pipelines without training models from scratch or managing infrastructure. Professionals collaborate closely with product teams, AI engineers, and data engineers to bring advanced capabilities into the Dragos platform, including network behavior clustering, asset classification, and anomaly detection for ICS and OT security analysts.

Key Responsibilities

Apply established machine learning techniques like classification, clustering, and anomaly detection to solve cybersecurity problems within the ICS and OT domain.
Integrate outputs from machine learning models into product workflows and current data pipelines, supporting near-real-time and batch processing patterns.
Understand model behavior and convert research outputs into dependable pipeline components.
Partner with data engineers to establish clear data contracts, proper observability, and robust failure modes for ML pipeline stages.
Assess open-source and third-party models for specific use cases to determine when to utilize existing tools versus escalating to model building.
Write clean, maintainable code in Python or Rust that peers can easily extend, test, and reason about.
Diagnose and troubleshoot production ML component issues related to data drift, output quality, and unexpected edge cases.
Communicate model certainty, behavior, and downstream application guidelines clearly to stakeholders.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience featuring significant involvement with data pipelines or ML outputs in a production environment.
Strong proficiency in Python alongside SQL skills and comfort handling large-scale data.
Practical experience applying anomaly detection, classification, and clustering methods such as DBSCAN, k-means, and hierarchical clustering.
Familiarity with the Python machine learning ecosystem, including scikit-learn.
Solid comprehension of data pipeline concepts, data flow, transformation processes, and failure visibility.
Capacity to evaluate the true trustworthiness of a model's outputs for specific use cases beyond just looking at accuracy metrics.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

Prior cybersecurity domain knowledge focusing on threat detection, ICS/OT operations, or network behavior.
Experience working with graph-based asset relationships or network topology representations.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures or stream processing.
Exposure to containerized environments like Docker and Kubernetes as a consumer or deployer.
