Role Overview

Altura is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join its engineering team in Amsterdam. The professional in this role will build the agentic layer powering the platform, focusing on context-aware systems that integrate with proprietary data graphs. This position suits an engineer who enjoys end-to-end ownership, rapid prototyping, and shipping reliable production software.

Key Responsibilities

Design and deliver an agentic layer and rich context graph that integrates with customer knowledge repositories.
Drive the architecture and delivery of production LLM and generative AI systems, including context engineering and multi-model strategies.
Define and implement evaluation procedures using offline and online metrics, gold sets, regression tests, and human review loops.
Operationalize LLMOps through deployment patterns, observability, incident response, and performance or cost optimization.
Build security guardrails, prompt-injection defenses, data-exfiltration prevention, and tool permissions.
Establish engineering standards by creating reference implementations, review practices, and documentation.
Mentor colleagues and raise standards in system design and code quality.

Requirements

Extensive experience in AI or machine learning software engineering with multiple production launches.
Strong software engineering fundamentals covering system design, testing, reliability, code review, and APIs.
Proven experience with LLM application patterns such as context engineering, embeddings, vector search, and structured outputs.
Hands-on experience building evaluation and monitoring for model and system quality in production.
Comfort operating in cloud environments like Azure, containers, CI/CD, and modern observability.
Excellent cross-functional communication skills to translate ambiguity into actionable plans.

Nice to Have

Experience optimizing inference through caching, batching, routing, quantization, or serving open-source models.
Experience building internal AI platforms such as evaluation harnesses or prompt version management.
