About this role

Based in Texas, the Robotics Software Engineer position at hive-autonomy involves integrating vehicle-specific control interfaces with a physical AI platform. This role suits a professional with extensive systems integration experience who wants to build autonomous industrial machines.

Role Overview

The Robotics Software Engineer connects individual vehicle-specific control interfaces to the core robotics platform. The position centers on system integration tasks to guarantee that the full robotics software stack runs reliably on physical machinery.

Key Responsibilities

Build software adapters, machine drivers, and hardware abstraction interfaces.
Link vehicle state, telemetry, diagnostics, commands, and sensors to the platform.
Connect vehicle-specific features with the control and autonomy stack.
Calibrate and configure the software platform for individual machines.
Integrate timing, networking, sensors, data interfaces, and coordinate frames.
Troubleshoot problems covering physical hardware, embedded controls, networking, and robotics software.
Create automated regression, integration, hardware-in-the-loop, and simulation tests.
Construct tools for commissioning, logging, telemetry analysis, and diagnostics.
Verify end-on-end system performance on actual machines.
Assist with customer acceptance, field bring-up, and testing.
Create reusable integration patterns for upcoming vehicle platforms.
Collaborate with core platform teams to refine interfaces and remove vehicle-specific forks.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of background in creating or integrating software for complex physical systems, autonomous vehicles, or robotics.
Advanced programming capabilities in Python and C++.
Extensive background in Linux development and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with robotics middleware systems like DDS, ROS 2, or comparable frameworks.
Background in building interfaces and drivers for actuators, sensors, and embedded controllers.
Knowledge of telemetry, calibration, coordinate frames, networking, and time synchronization.
Background in testing software on physical robotic machinery.
Capacity to troubleshoot issues bridging software and hardware boundaries.
Background in simulation, hardware-in-the-loop systems, or automated testing.
Preparedness to travel frequently and work hands-on with machines.

About the Company

Hive builds a machine-agnostic intelligence platform that allows any machine on any site to act, perceive, and decide autonomously without replacing entire fleets. The technology operates across warehousing, logistics, industrial manufacturing, and large-scale chemical production in Europe, and a US expansion is underway.
