About this role

Based in the Delhi HQ, this Research Scientist role involves inventing methods to make artificial intelligence systems more accurate, reliable, and autonomous for an AI-first travel platform, suiting professionals with deep research expertise in machine learning.

Role Overview

Atlys seeks a Research Scientist to lead the creation of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities that remove friction from global travel. The position focuses on solving complex technical challenges, including reliable agents for government portals, reasoning over messy real-world documents, and building systems that recognize their own limitations. The professional in this position will set the research direction, execute rigorous experiments, and partner with research engineers to translate scientific breakthroughs into production improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate and lead a research agenda centered on agentic artificial intelligence, exploring how language model-powered agents plan, utilize tools, execute actions, and recover from errors across multi-step tasks.
Invent novel techniques for multimodal comprehension and reasoning to accurately extract, verify, and evaluate unstructured real-world inputs across multiple formats and languages.
Design and execute post-training investigations, encompassing fine-tuning, preference optimization, and reinforcement learning to surpass standard frontier model capabilities.
Investigate uncertainty estimation, calibration, and self-verification so the platform can autonomously determine when to act or defer to human oversight.
Create evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, and synthetic data strategies to measure model robustness, quality, and failure modes on edge cases.
Partner alongside research engineers to transition concepts from experimental prototypes into production environments while communicating findings through internal documentation and publications.

Requirements

Hold a Master of Science or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline, or possess equivalent research experience alongside three or more years of applied or academic research background in machine learning, natural language processing, or computer vision.
Demonstrate a history of original research, such as peer-reviewed papers at major venues like NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, or CVPR, impactful open-source contributions, or research that directly influenced production metrics.
Possess hands-on mastery of large language models beyond basic prompting, including post-training methods like RLHF or DPO, fine-tuning, and structured evaluation design.
Exhibit strong programming capabilities in Python and PyTorch, demonstrating the ability to independently conduct experiments from data curation through training and analysis.
Apply rigorous experimental design with a focus on practical real-world impact.
