Role Overview

The Research Engineer position at Clera involves collaborating with an artificial intelligence research team to transition experimental code into production-ready systems. The professional in this position builds and enhances shared post-training infrastructure that powers research data generation, data processing, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

Transform research prototypes into tested and reusable data generation, training, and evaluation pipelines.
Construct distributed experiment support encompassing data loading, checkpointing, and agent interaction collection.
Profile workloads to enhance GPU utilization, memory efficiency, and data throughput.
Create tests, experiment tracking utilities, and debugging tools while maintaining research result integrity.
Partner with researchers to convert conceptual ideas into maintainable software solutions.

Requirements

Experience constructing machine learning training, inference, or data pipelines using Python.
Strong proficiency in Python combined with practical experience using PyTorch, JAX, or similar machine learning frameworks.
Comprehension of machine learning experiments, covering the impact of data, numerical precision, and implementation decisions on outcomes.
Solid software engineering practices including testing, profiling, version control, and documentation.

Nice to Have

Distributed training or data processing experience utilizing PyTorch Distributed, DeepSpeed, or Ray.
Familiarity with Hugging Face Transformers, vLLM, or experiment tracking platforms like Weights & Biases and MLflow.
Background working with reinforcement learning systems or multimodal datasets.
