Role Overview

As the Quality Control Lead, this team member acts as the final checkpoint between raw data and the delivered product. Based on-site in San Francisco, the role centers on deciding what meets shipping standards, coaching contributors to improve, and building automated systems to prevent recurring errors.

Key Responsibilities

Own the final quality checkpoint before publishing or delivering datasets by auditing code, technical information, and reasoning data for clarity, correctness, structure, and specification adherence.
Collaborate with infrastructure engineers to continuously improve and automate quality control workflows.
Partner with data delivery teams to pinpoint systemic quality problems, feed corrections into contributor training, and prevent future issues.
Track quality metrics and key performance indicators, providing leadership with reports on error rates, root causes, and improvement trends.
Support broader company-wide initiatives covering building, analysis, coordination, and execution during company scaling.

Requirements

Bring at least 3 years of experience in a technical role such as software engineering, machine learning engineering, or data science, alongside hands-on proficiency in a modern programming language.
Demonstrate proven ability to review, debug, and evaluate technical data, code, and knowledge work for structure, correctness, and quality with strict rigor.
Possess experience building or leading a quality assurance or quality control function for a data-centric or technical product.
Exhibit extremely high attention to detail and the ability to make judgment calls on ambiguous or contested technical content.
Display strong communication and leadership skills to translate quality issues into clear, actionable feedback for a distributed team.
Demonstrate high agency, a strong work ethic, comfort operating with minimal direction, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a genuine passion for AI.

Nice to Have

Background in AI training data, reinforcement learning from human feedback, or data-annotation quality assurance.
Experience reviewing datasets across multiple domains including reasoning, code, and knowledge work.
Experience designing grading criteria, rubrics, or automated quality-checking scripts and tools.
Familiarity with AI-assisted workflow tools like Claude Code.
A computer science degree or equivalent hands-on engineering background.

Skills and Tools
