The Principal Engineer - Applications position at Weave is a full-time, US-based remote opportunity for an experienced technical leader to guide the company's core patient-facing and practice-facing platforms. This role suits a senior software professional who wants to shape enterprise-level technical strategy, mentor engineering teams, and solve complex problems spanning multiple organizational boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for Payments, Scheduling, Forms, Business Experience, and Revenue Cycle Management platforms to secure long-term competitive advantage.
Drive architectural coherence across multiple teams by identifying and resolving cross-system dependencies and platform-level technical debt.
Lead technical due diligence for major strategic initiatives, including platform migrations, vendor evaluations, and build-versus-buy decisions.
Tackle ambiguous, company-level technical challenges that cross team boundaries, creating comprehensive validation, testing, and rollback plans.
Anticipate industry trends in high-scale customer experience and transactional platforms to keep the organization ahead of emerging challenges.
Establish company-wide standards for distributed systems reliability, observability, and engineering excellence.
Actively mentor Staff and Senior Engineers through design reviews, hands-on guidance, and documentation standards to elevate architectural thinking.

Requirements

Possess 15 or more years of software engineering experience with progressive technical leadership scope.
Demonstrate a proven track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives that produce measurable business outcomes.
Show a demonstrated ability to influence without authority, build consensus across organizational barriers, and translate technical tradeoffs into business terms.
Bring deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, building and operating services that manage hundreds of millions of transactions and terabytes of data.
Have practical experience with event streaming and messaging infrastructure, such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub, operating at significant scale.
Exhibit a strong background in scalable data stores, including relational databases like PostgreSQL at scale, Vitess, or Spanner, and NoSQL solutions like Redis or Bigtable.
Provide operational experience with cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or GCP, featuring Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and highly available system design.
Maintain a solid backend engineering foundation with a preference for Go, while Python, Java, or C# are also acceptable.

Nice to Have

Background working in compliance-heavy industries such as healthcare or fintech, with experience navigating regulatory requirements in technical designs.
Experience integrating AI capabilities into production systems or shaping AI and machine learning infrastructure.
History of external technical leadership, including published technical writing, conference speaking, or open source contributions.
Expertise in data platform architecture covering streaming pipelines, data lakes, warehouses, or distributed analytics.
