About this role

Based in London, the Principal Data Scientist role at Comind involves leading technical strategies for signal processing and machine learning to build advanced neuromonitoring technology. This senior position suits an experienced professional with a deep background in extracting signals from complex physiological systems who wants to shape clinical brain monitoring applications.

Role Overview

Comind seeks a Principal Data Scientist to act as a technical authority for the data science function in London. This senior individual contributor role focuses on developing algorithms and machine learning systems that turn raw optical interference signals into continuous clinical measurements for cerebral blood flow and pressure. The position requires working on-site at the Kings Cross offices at least four days per week with one flexible work-from-home day.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the end-to-end signal processing and inference chain, moving raw optical data into clinical measurements.
Establish methodological direction for estimation, signal extraction, and machine learning models across the team.
Drive signal processing and analysis programmes from research to validated, production-quality implementations alongside software engineering.
Derive performance bounds from noise models to guide algorithm selection and design trade-offs.
Oversee calibration strategies and uncertainty handling for small clinical cohorts and per-patient estimations.
Act as the primary technical reviewer for research reports, evaluation methodologies, and regulatory documents.
Contribute to intellectual property and publication strategies through technical papers and patent applications.

Requirements

Fifteen or more years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or applied research.
Track record of independent technical leadership handling complex and ambiguous problems.
Experience extracting small signals from noisy physiological systems using physical models.
Expertise in physiological time-series signal processing methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to take algorithmic work from research concepts to production-quality implementations in shipped products.
Experience designing device performance evaluation methods and handling calibration or cross-instrument comparability work.
Strong background of scientific output through publications, patents, or equivalent technical contributions.

Nice to Have

Background in neuroscience, neuromonitoring, or cerebrovascular physiology.
Experience with optical signal processing technologies like LiDAR, pulse oximetry, NIRS, or laser Doppler flowmetry.
Experience working in a regulated industry such as medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals.
