About this role
Internal back-office operations often struggle to translate high-level artificial intelligence strategies into measurable, durable execution without creating external dependencies. Five9 addresses this challenge by hiring a Principal for Back-Office AI Transformation to take direct ownership of the internal automation agenda, scoping use cases, building solutions, and proving real business value from the ground up.
This individual-contributor role requires rolling up your sleeves to run ongoing diagnostics, deliver targeted pilots in priority workflows, and build the blueprints for future scaling. The position is well-suited for a pragmatic builder who prefers coding and deploying working applications over writing advisory memos or managing layers of indirect reports.
What you will do
- Conduct ongoing diagnostics across back-office functions by combining employee input, process observation, and benchmarking to build a ranked portfolio of automation opportunities.
- Define the semantic layers, metric definitions, and function-specific context graphs required to make organizational diagnostics and subsequent pilots usable.
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of bounded pilots in priority workflows, overseeing everything from process discovery to controlled user trials with real tasks.
- Establish credible baselines and transparent measurement frameworks that separate actual business impact and capacity release from theoretical time-savings.
- Partner closely with leaders in finance, HR, legal, IT, and business technology to align on tool environments, access needs, and integration requirements.
- Translate pilot findings into clear future-state blueprints and sequenced roadmaps that allow the organization to scale successful automation workflows.
What you need
- Bring fifteen or more years of professional experience in operations transformation, shared services, business process automation, or internal strategy offices.
- Demonstrate direct, hands-on experience working within back-office functions such as finance, accounting, HR, legal, IT, or procurement.
- Possess a proven track record of shipping actual automation solutions, ranging from RPA and workflow tooling to AI-native applications.
- Show direct experience executing structured organizational diagnostics and translating findings into fundable opportunity portfolios.
- Exhibit strong quantitative skills capable of building and defending rigorous value-measurement models for executive stakeholders.
- Hold a bachelor's degree alongside strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting evidence-based findings.
Nice to have
- Experience partnering with internal technology or business-systems teams to stand up new tooling
- Experience working at a public company or within a SaaS subscription business
- An MBA or other advanced degree
