About this role

Organizations across EMEA struggle to effectively leverage complex satellite imagery and geospatial datasets to solve critical commercial and governmental challenges. Planet addresses this data gap by operating an extensive imaging satellite constellation, requiring skilled technical professionals to bridge the gap between raw space data and practical utility for public sector clients.

As a PreSales Engineer focused on German Government and Commercial B2B markets, you will demonstrate the technical value of the platform, design tailored solution architectures, and help clients navigate earth observation hurdles. You will serve as the primary technical interface during sales cycles, translating intricate remote sensing requirements into actionable, value-driven demonstrations and proposals.

Ideal candidates bring a background in earth observation combined with customer-facing technical skills and fluency in German. Success in the role requires an ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships, collaborate closely with internal product and sales teams, and articulate complex geospatial concepts clearly.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional groups like Customer Success and Product Management to act as the voice of the customer.
  • Contribute to tenders, RFIs, RFPs, and proposals by providing accurate product and solution information.
  • Mentor team members in specialized areas and lead training sessions to support internal development.

What you need

  • Four or more years of experience supporting governments and associated communities in earth observation.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study.
  • Demonstrate the ability to translate technical remote sensing and geospatial requirements into practical solutions and demo architectures.
  • Possess fluency in German along with professional working proficiency in English.
  • Show expertise working with QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL, and other standard geospatial software packages.
  • Have programming proficiency in Python to process imagery, manipulate vector data, interact with APIs, and build data pipelines.
