Platform Performance & Resilience (AI-Enabled) Engineer
About this role
Engineers who thrive on bridging customer needs with complex distributed architectures will find a natural fit in this group. Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions builds retail store technology used by major global brands, connecting edge devices, in-store servers, and cloud infrastructure. Daily work centers on defining system performance limits, building virtualized load simulators, and applying artificial intelligence to scale non-functional platform validation.
This architecture role sits at the intersection of customer delivery and production engineering. Professionals stepping into this position will collaborate directly with external clients to establish scale targets while also crafting infrastructure sizing models for statements of work. Candidates who possess a strong grasp of distributed systems, deep performance engineering experience, and a desire to automate resilience testing will succeed here.
What you will do
- Engage directly with customers to establish performance expectations, scale targets, and operational constraints.
- Define and lead platform-wide performance testing strategies using k6 and automated delivery pipelines.
- Design virtualized environments and simulators that mimic production-scale store workloads and external dependencies.
- Own infrastructure sizing models to provide validated recommendations for cluster capacity and message throughput.
- Establish architectural patterns for handling failures, degraded dependencies, and partial outages.
- Implement end-to-end transaction visibility and telemetry requirements across edge, store, and cloud components.
- Utilize AI-driven systems to generate resilience scenarios, detect regressions, and automate validation workflows.
What you need
- Must have at least 5 years of software engineering experience focusing on distributed systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in performance engineering and scalability architecture.
- Hands-on background utilizing k6 or comparable performance testing tooling.
- Experience executing comprehensive load, stress, and scalability test suites.
- Familiarity with capacity planning, infrastructure sizing, and cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Proficiency in distributed systems concepts like concurrency control, latency management, and circuit breakers.
- Must be located near or within the Raleigh-Durham area and authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Nice to have
- Experience with multi-tier architectures spanning edge, on-prem, and cloud
- Background building simulation or virtualization environments
- Familiarity with event-driven systems like Kafka, Pub/Sub, or MQ
- Experience implementing observability frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or ELK
- Exposure to AI-driven testing or validation systems
Benefits
- Group health coverage including medical, dental, and vision
- Employee Assistance Programs
- Pre-tax spending accounts
- 401(k) plan with company match
- Company provided life insurance and pet insurance
- Generous paid holiday schedule, vacation, and sick or personal days
