About this role
To ensure autonomous vehicle operations and enterprise continuity remain resilient at scale, Waymo needs a Network Operations Manager to lead digital infrastructure reliability in Austin, TX. The Digital Transformation Services and Waymo Infrastructure & Network Services teams build and operate intelligent digital infrastructure that powers commercialization, mission-critical systems, and GenAI transformation.
In this position, the individual will oversee network infrastructure, guide the transition from manual configurations to automated operations, and manage Tier 2/3 incident escalations. Success in the role requires deep technical expertise in network operations combined with a proven track record of building and leading inclusive engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
What you will do
- Manage a high-performing team of engineers, technical professionals, and vendor agents while designing overarching business plans and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Act as an owner during major service disruptions to manage end-to-end remediation and evolve the incident framework into an ITIL-aligned methodology.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of technology infrastructure services by establishing key performance indicators and continuous process improvement models.
- Validate and implement Methods of Procedure for internal teams while overseeing the deployment and maintenance of firewalls, switches, access points, and UPS hardware.
- Provide technical leadership during complex network event correlation, architectural improvement validations, and the review of site-specific Engineering Design Plans.
- Guide the transition from legacy manual network configurations to highly automated operations in partnership with cross-functional teams.
What you need
- Bring at least seven years of professional experience in network operations or network engineering.
- Possess a minimum of two years of direct experience in a management or team lead role.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of recruiting, hiring, and building technical teams in fast-paced environments.
- Show strong knowledge of configuring network devices via command line interfaces and cloud-hosted portals.
- Demonstrate experience managing high-performance networks that support large-scale data ingress and egress alongside critical on-premise infrastructure.
- Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent certifications and experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with network automation tools such as Ansible, Python, and Terraform to streamline operations
- Practical experience establishing and troubleshooting BGP network peering and complex routing scenarios

What is the expected salary range for this position?
The expected base salary range across US locations is $175,000 to $215,000 USD. Actual starting pay is based on job-related factors including exact work location, experience, relevant training, education, and skill level.

This role reports to the IT Network Operations Manager. The person manages a team of engineers, technical professionals, and vendor agents within the infrastructure organization.
