About this role

Based in San Francisco, this full-time role is for a Member of Technical Staff focusing on biological analysis and simulation at Mithrl, suiting a professional with a background in machine learning and computational biology. The employee will build the core analytical reasoning layer that allows the artificial intelligence discovery engine to interpret biological data and orchestrate drug discovery simulations.

Role Overview

This position involves building analytical modules and multi-step agentic workflows that transform biological data into scientific insights. The professional will design strategies for the artificial intelligence to run multiple analyses per dataset, integrate simulation tools for small molecule discovery, and shape how the system reasons about biological systems.

Key Responsibilities

Build artificial intelligence-driven analysis agents that perform biological reasoning across diverse datasets.
Develop standard analysis suites containing modules for differential expression, pathway analysis, feature importance, clustering, scoring, enrichment, and mechanism-of-action interpretation.
Construct multi-step workflows combining machine learning models, statistical logic, and biological knowledge.
Design agentic reasoning strategies allowing the system to run numerous analyses and synthesize coherent scientific narratives.
Integrate simulation and modeling tools for small molecule drug discovery like ADMET prediction, docking scoring, generative chemistry, and structure-based modeling.
Collaborate with data engineering, bioinformatics, and curation teams to ensure consistent data usage.
Validate results, benchmark pipelines, and ensure scientific accuracy and reproducibility.
Contribute to the long-term architecture for reasoning, hypothesis testing, and simulation.

Requirements

Strong background in machine learning, computational biology, or a related scientific machine learning field.
Experience developing analysis modules for biological or scientific datasets.
Familiarity with target discovery, gene expression analysis, pathway inference, clustering, or statistical modeling.
Practical experience with computational chemistry or simulation tools such as ADMET models, docking, binding prediction, or molecular generative models.
Proficiency in Python and scientific computing libraries.
Experience designing multi-step reasoning or workflow-based machine learning pipelines.
Ability to translate complex scientific questions into structured analytical workflows.
Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to Have

Experience with large language model-powered scientific agents or multi-agent architectures.
Familiarity with phenotype-based discovery, multi-modal integration, or systems biology.
Background in computational chemistry or structure-based drug discovery.
Experience with biological ontologies, curated knowledge graphs, or pathway databases.
Prior experience in a tech-bio company, biotech research and development group, or scientific platform team.
