Role Overview

Lyra Health is seeking a Manager for AI and ML Engineering to lead the technical execution of its machine learning roadmap across the United States. This position focuses on scaling an engineering team while translating technical vision into reliable, production-grade systems designed for mental health care.

Key Responsibilities

Guide the technical growth of machine learning engineers through weekly one-on-one sessions, performance management, and defined career trajectories.
Direct quarterly planning for AI and ML workstreams, prioritizing initiatives like clinical program mapping in alignment with company goals.
Build an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture by promoting mentorship, knowledge sharing, and high technical standards.
Partner with product management and data science leads to convert clinical requirements into safe, production-ready models.
Oversee the machine learning software development lifecycle, conducting design reviews and guiding the transition from research to Kubernetes-based microservices.
Provide architectural guidance and prototypes to scale the collective impact and technical reach of the team.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience in engineering management, specifically leading and scaling machine learning and artificial intelligence teams in production environments.
Background in developing technical talent, managing performance, and fostering collaborative team environments.
Experience balancing long-term technical strategy and model governance with daily leadership responsibilities.
Technical foundation in machine learning systems such as transformers, neural networks, and model fine-tuning.
Mastery of the machine learning software development lifecycle, including dataset lineage, automated evaluation, and scalable microservices.
Experience architecting cloud-native solutions on AWS or equivalent cloud providers.
Ability to translate ambiguous technical problems into clear strategic priorities across engineering, product, and business disciplines.

Nice to Have

Production coding experience in Java or Kotlin.
Background architecting artificial intelligence and machine learning systems within regulated environments involving HIPAA, SOC2, and PHI or PII data.
Experience building internal developer platforms or machine learning tooling for data scientists and engineers.
