Role Overview

Spare is seeking a Junior AI-Accelerated Developer to help increase engineering velocity by collaborating closely with the engineering team and the Co-Founder and COO. This position centers on software fundamentals combined with proficiency in AI coding tools. The team works in Vancouver, Canada, focusing on microtransit, paratransit, and municipal operations in over 250 cities globally.

Key Responsibilities

Iterate on code using Cursor and Claude Code based on reviewer feedback

Translate high-level instructions into precise prompts to guide AI-generated code

Refactor, clean up, and polish code to meet quality standards

Maintain local and remote environments, resolve merge conflicts, and rebase branches

Keep pull requests unblocked by ensuring CI, linting, type checks, and tests pass

Address automated feedback from tools like Meticulous, linters, and TypeScript errors

Apply checklists and QA steps before senior engineer review

Catch common issues missed by AI, including naming conventions, structure, and edge cases

Requirements

One to two years of hands-on experience with software development, including internships

Basic familiarity with TypeScript, React, or Node.js

Comfort with Git, pull request workflows, and debugging build issues

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to follow precise instructions

Nice to Have

Experience with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot

Experience in frontend engineering or fullstack frameworks

Familiarity with monorepos like Nx, microfrontends, or modern React architecture
