Role Overview

The Head of Product Design role at House swap & home exchange with no membership fee in San Francisco involves directing the end-to-end member experience across web and mobile platforms. This position is ideal for an experienced design leader who wants to shape the future of travel accommodation through community-driven platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and expand a cross-disciplinary team covering product design, research, and content or UX writing.

Establish the design vision and strategy in close partnership with product, engineering, marketing, and operations leaders.

Maintain high quality standards across the member experience, from major feature launches to fine details.

Partner with marketing and brand teams to ensure product and brand function as a unified system.

Drive an AI-native design approach by integrating AI into prototyping, research synthesis, and production workflows.

Requirements

Bring 12 or more years of experience in product design.

Accumulate at least 5 years of experience leading and managing design teams.

Demonstrate cross-functional leadership across product design, research, and content writing.

Possess a proven track record of partnering with marketing and brand functions.

Demonstrate deep experience with building, scaling, and utilizing design systems.

Show design experience for trust-based platforms such as marketplaces, communities, or peer-to-peer products.

Operate as a player-coach who is ready to ship work independently when necessary.

Nice to Have

Prior experience acting as the most senior design leader at a company owning the function end-to-end.

Background working with marketplace or consumer products driven by community.

Experience building or leading both consumer and brand or marketing design work.

Experience shipping production features or internal tools built primarily with AI.

Experience taking products through 0 to 1 and 1 to 10 growth stages.
