Role Overview

Clerk is hiring a Senior GRC Engineer to join the security team on a full-time, remote basis. The person in this position will take ownership of the compliance program, manage customer vendor reviews, and build automated systems to enforce security policies continuously.

Key Responsibilities

Manage SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance end-to-end, covering scoping, control design, evidence collection, auditor walkthroughs, and remediation.
Scope and lead the adoption of new frameworks like ISO 27001 based on customer demand.
Develop and maintain integrations connecting cloud providers, SaaS tools, and internal systems to the GRC platform.
Implement policy-as-code, configuration drift detection, and control-failure pipelines for continuous checks.
Handle the vendor security review program from initial intake through periodic re-reviews.
Manage the trust center workflow and complete security questionnaires.
Maintain the risk register and conduct formal risk assessments.
Integrate compliance requirements into the software development lifecycle and change management processes.
Minimize manual intervention required for quarterly audits.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience in security with a proven track record of building automation for GRC or compliance programs.
Direct experience serving as the technical owner for at least one SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 audit.
Programming capability, including the use of LLMs to enhance productivity.
Practical experience working directly with a GRC platform API rather than just the user interface.
Deep understanding of cloud IAM and configuration, with a preference for GCP.
Ability to determine sufficient evidence and defend automated tests to auditors.
Capability to scope, prioritize, and execute tasks independently within a small security team.
Strong writing skills for drafting clear policies, control narratives, and customer-facing questionnaire responses.

Nice to Have

Prior work experience in an all-remote organization.
Experience deploying LLM or agentic workflows in production settings for compliance tasks.
Background working at a developer-tools company.
