About this role

ClassDojo is hiring a remote Founding Senior Software Engineer to join the Developer Experience and AI Platform team and shape the foundation of internal tooling and AI-powered workflows. This role is well-suited for an experienced engineer who enjoys building internal platforms and multiplying the productivity of other engineers in a distributed setting.

Role Overview

The Founding Senior Software Engineer will join a newly formed Developer Experience Engineering team at ClassDojo, working remotely. The position focuses on creating internal platforms, tooling, and AI-powered developer experiences to reduce friction for engineers across the company. Rather than inheriting a mature platform, this role helps shape its foundations by partnering with engineers to identify pain points, build high-leverage solutions, and establish reliable paved paths for software delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build internal platforms, tooling, and developer workflows that improve software development, testing, reviewing, deploying, and operating.
Multiply engineering productivity by identifying high-impact platform investments that reduce developer friction and improve velocity, quality, and reliability.
Build practical AI-powered workflows to help engineers write, review, test, and ship software effectively while maintaining security and quality.
Partner closely with product engineering, infrastructure, security, and technical leaders to understand pain points and solve real problems.
Create trusted paved paths through reusable tools, automation, documentation, and self-service capabilities.
Use engineering metrics, developer feedback, and adoption data to measure impact and continuously improve the developer experience.
Contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, and the long-term evolution of Developer Experience Engineering as an early team member.

Requirements

Extensive background with 10+ years of building production software within modern engineering organizations.
Experience solving organization-wide engineering problems with product thinking applied to internal platforms.
Strong technical judgment regarding when to build, simplify, automate, or adopt existing solutions.
Ability to thrive in ambiguity and help establish a new Platform Engineering team.
Skill in building trust through partnership and influence rather than organizational authority.
Dedication to engineering craftsmanship, maintainability, and long-term platform health.
Approach to AI as a practical tool for improving engineering effectiveness.
Focus on measuring success through the impact of work on other engineers.
Willingness to have significant hours overlap with one of the Americas time zones.

Nice to Have

Background in Developer Experience or Platform Engineering teams.
Experience with internal developer platforms or engineering productivity initiatives.
Familiarity with CI/CD, release engineering, developer environments, or software delivery systems.
Experience in AI-assisted software development or developer tooling.
Knowledge of engineering productivity measurement frameworks like DORA or SPACE.
Experience in high-growth engineering organizations with organization-wide platform impacts.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range for CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT states: $171,500 - $250,000 USD per year.
Salary range for all other US states: $146,000 - $215,000 USD per year.
Compensation is determined by considering geographic location, experience, and skillset.
