EasyLlama is seeking a remote Founding Platform Engineer to build foundational technical infrastructure and lead the platform engineering function. This full-time role suits a senior software professional with extensive Ruby on Rails and cloud infrastructure experience who enjoys scaling developer productivity and backend systems.

Role Overview

As the first dedicated platform engineer at EasyLlama, this individual establishes the technical foundation that powers company products and enables engineering teams to move faster. Working closely with the CTO and Senior Engineering Manager, the person in this role defines the vision, architecture, and roadmap for Platform Engineering while helping shape a future engineering squad. Operating as the most senior individual contributor, the engineer remains deeply hands-on while owning core systems like billing, enterprise APIs, Kubernetes infrastructure, developer experience, AI platforms, and system security.

Key Responsibilities

Own the technical roadmap and drive architectural decisions for Platform Engineering.
Architect, build, and operate highly scalable backend services using Ruby on Rails.
Design and operate Kubernetes infrastructure, cloud architecture, and deployment pipelines.
Improve developer productivity through CI/CD automation, internal tooling, and engineering best practices.
Build and evolve platforms powering AI products, including LLM orchestration, agent infrastructure, prompt management, and evaluation pipelines.
Manage the billing platform, covering subscriptions, licensing, usage metering, invoicing, and Stripe integrations.
Design and maintain secure enterprise integrations using REST APIs, OAuth, SAML, SCIM, and webhooks.
Create robust observability through logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and performance monitoring.
Mentor other engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, and architectural guidance.

Requirements

10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Expert-level Ruby on Rails experience in production SaaS environments.
Strong React skills with the ability to work across the full stack.
Extensive background in designing distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
Deep operational experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and cloud-native infrastructure.
Strong expertise in building and operating CI/CD pipelines and modern developer tooling.
Solid understanding of SQL, database design, caching, background processing, and notification systems.
Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams without direct people management.

Nice to Have

Experience building AI-native products, AI agents, RAG, vector databases, or internal AI platforms.
Practical knowledge of Stripe or alternative subscription billing platforms.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Helm charts.
Background with event-driven architectures and distributed messaging systems such as RabbitMQ, SQS, or NATS.
Previous tenure at a high-growth B2B SaaS organization.
Knowledge of SOC 2, cloud security, and compliance best practices.
Open-source contributions or technical thought leadership records.
