Role Overview

Clera seeks a Founding Engineer for an on-site position in Brazil to develop backend systems supporting financial integrations, ledger foundations, and workflow orchestration. The professional joining this early-stage fintech team will work directly with founders and clients to prototype solutions, guide product strategy, and maintain dependable infrastructure for financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Create, construct, and manage production backend services and public APIs intended for partners and clients.
Maintain and develop connections with external data sources, financial systems, and banking institutions.
Construct ETL pipelines incorporating data validation, quality controls, and reconciliation mechanisms.
Implement operational and observability methods, covering logging, metrics, alerting, incident handling, and on-call availability.
Partner with users and founders to spot challenges, rapidly build prototypes, evaluate results, and determine product choices.
Utilize LLMs practically within production environments accompanied by suitable guardrails when measurable benefits exist.
Produce documentation regarding system architecture, testing criteria, and security measures to raise engineering standards.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years working in backend engineering, specifically taking responsibility for production systems from start to finish.
Proficiency with relational data modeling, OLTP architectures, REST APIs, alongside consistency and availability trade-offs.
Background in connecting complex external APIs, dealing with authentication, rate limiting, webhooks, and retry logic.
Ability to handle unstructured data formats like email, XML, and PDFs while extracting and normalizing the content.
Hands-on cloud and DevOps capabilities spanning Docker, AWS or GCP, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging.

Nice to Have

Financial or ERP integration background.
Experience with ledgers, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and financial reconciliation.
Knowledge of event-driven architectures including SQS or Kafka.
Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Prefect, Airflow, or Temporal.
Exposure to deploying LLMs in production.
Background in B2B SaaS, fintech, or previous founding-engineer roles.
