About this role

This Forward Deployed Robotics Engineer position at eka robotics is based in the Boston Area and suits hands-on technical professionals who can independently manage global robot deployments and client-site troubleshooting. The role focuses on supporting robotic manipulation systems, performing diagnostic analysis, and ensuring maximum fleet uptime through rigorous field operations.

Role Overview

The Forward Deployed Robotics Engineer acts as the primary on-site technical expert for robotic manipulation systems. Responsibilities include supporting global deployments, managing product demonstrations, and serving as the first responder for field issues. The position requires frequent travel to client sites, independent technical execution, and close collaboration with core hardware and software research and development teams.

Key Responsibilities

Build, configure, troubleshoot, and deploy robotic arms, camera systems, and grippers on-site while conducting spatial and hand-eye calibrations.
Triage incoming fleet support tickets based on operational impact across software, hardware, and operational layers.
Conduct physical inspections and root cause analysis to isolate and reproduce field failures.
Analyze sensor streams, telemetry, and system logs to form diagnostic hypotheses.
Collaborate with core engineering teams to escalate complex issues and advise on new diagnostic features.
Create standard troubleshooting flowcharts, diagnostic procedures, and operational guides.
Produce deployment documentation to assist third-party integrators and maintain logs for all diagnostic events.
Travel over fifty percent of the time to lead client demonstrations, on-site deployments, and operational support.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and performing root-cause analysis on complex deployed systems integrating hardware and software.
Practical background in parsing log files and writing basic diagnostic scripts using Python.
Understanding of how mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software layers interact within robotic systems.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities for solo customer engagements.

Nice to Have

Master of Science degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
Experience deploying learning-based control models like reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or vision-to-action policies on physical manipulators.
Track record of writing automated calibration routines, CLI scripts, and internal Python tools to reduce deployment cycles.
Experience acting as a sole technical lead on client sites or customer demonstrations.
Hands-on background with 6+ DoF industrial or cobot arms and industrial communications such as EtherCAT, CANbus, and Modbus.
Experience managing Linux network interfaces, edge devices, and containerized robotics software stacks.
Familiarity with robotics diagnostic tools like ROS bags and Foxglove Studio.
Experience establishing field operational processes, FMEA, and Standard Operating Procedures.
