Forward Deployed Engineer, Growth
About this role
WithCoverage needs to bridge the gap between complex risk management operations and the practical implementation of artificial intelligence for high-growth modern businesses. The Growth team builds proprietary technology and AI agents that give clients full visibility into policies, claims, and billing to replace fragmented manual brokerage workflows.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer on the Growth team, you will spend roughly half your time writing code, connecting LLMs and APIs, and building AI-powered tools and integrations. The other half of the job involves joining sales calls, advising nontechnical operators, and turning technical value into concrete next steps. You will own engineering execution from testing to iteration while serving as the technical expert in client-facing discussions.
This role suits someone with a blend of software engineering capability and strong client instincts who enjoys explaining complex concepts clearly. Successful candidates will feel comfortable taking a defined problem, making independent technical decisions, and communicating clearly with both internal product teams and external executive stakeholders.
What you will do
- Partner with the product team to take responsibility for engineering execution on defined projects.
- Build AI-powered tools, applications, scripts, and integrations by connecting large language models, APIs, and business data.
- Evaluate outputs against real examples, handle errors and edge cases, and improve reliability.
- Join prospect conversations and email threads to answer technical questions and demonstrate useful applications of AI.
- Give nontechnical operators practical advice and explain technical concepts in plain language.
- Build prototypes, scripts, or lightweight tools using relevant sample data and documents when follow-up calls require a working example.
- Document built solutions, reuse components where appropriate, and communicate constraints to product and core engineering teams.
What you need
- Bring at least four years of technical experience, ideally from an AI or analytics practice at a consulting firm or in a forward-deployed or solutions engineering role.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience building AI-powered applications that real people have used, including work with prompt engineering, retrieval, agents, and evaluations.
- Possess the ability to explain how a large language model works to someone who has never written code.
- Show genuinely strong client instincts with the ability to read a room, handle skeptical executives, and communicate technical realities clearly.

Where is the role located?
This role works daily across Marketing, Sales, Revenue Ops, and client-facing executives, so it is built to be in-person at the NYC headquarters.
What is the compensation range for this position?
The expected base pay range at the start of employment is $140,000 to $170,000 per year, with equity included on top of it. Actual compensation will vary based on individual factors such as market location, relevant experience, and role scope, and the role is also eligible for variable compensation tied to performance or quota attainment where applicable.
What kind of client-facing responsibilities are involved?
You will join prospect conversations and email threads to answer technical questions, work through specific problems, and demonstrate useful applications of AI. Roughly half your week looks like people-facing work where you act as the technical expert on the call and build prototypes afterwards.
