Role Overview

The Forward Deployed Engineer AI Inference position at lyceum involves driving the technical aspects of large-scale inference deals from the initial discovery phase through to go-live deployment. Operating in Berlin, this role serves as the primary technical advisor for customer engineering leadership while collaborating closely with the commercial division to finalize agreements.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the technical components of complex inference deals throughout the entire sales and deployment lifecycle.

Advise client technology leaders on system architecture, resource sizing, performance level agreements, latency and throughput optimization, and operational expenses.

Architect specific inference environments by determining appropriate models, hardware configurations, parallelism methods, compression techniques, and serving software.

Conduct performance benchmarks and evaluation trials, translating outcomes into actionable guidance for clients.

Coordinate client-specific customizations with the internal engineering division.

Develop operational playbooks, internal tooling for workload allocation, and contribute field insights to product planning.

Partner with business teams on pricing structures, proposal creation, and technical contract elements.

Requirements

Academic qualification in computer science, data science, or a related discipline.

Minimum of four years of professional experience in a client-facing technical capacity such as solutions engineering, sales engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or technical consulting.

Practical background working with large language model serving engines and hardware sizing.

Demonstrated history of managing technical elements within complex business-to-business transactions.

Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to diverse audiences ranging from executives to developers.

Fluent English language proficiency.

Nice to Have

Professional background with artificial intelligence inference providers, graphics processing unit cloud providers, or infrastructure organizations.

Specific expertise in performance evaluation, latency reduction, cost-per-token optimization, model compression, and batching strategies.

Previous startup working environment experience.
