About this role
Building advanced battery energy storage systems begins with analyzing operational data, developing machine learning models, and building automated tools that transform large datasets into actionable insights. Moment Energy seeks a Data Scientist Co-op to join the engineering team in Surrey, British Columbia, starting in January 2027. This person will support the development of algorithms and adaptive models that improve the performance, reliability, and longevity of repurposed large-format batteries.
Collaboration with the Battery Engineering and Battery Management System teams forms a core part of the daily routine. Candidates pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline who bring strong analytical skills and an interest in energy systems will find an environment geared toward hands-on learning and mentorship.
What you will do
- Assist in developing and validating battery state-of-charge and state-of-health estimation algorithms.
- Support the development of adaptive battery models using machine learning methods such as Gaussian Process Regression.
- Build automated data analysis tools to process battery data gathered from internal testing labs and external customers.
- Develop dashboards and visualization tools to monitor battery performance and operational metrics.
- Create AI and machine learning models to forecast battery load and performance utilizing historical operational and environmental data.
- Analyze large datasets from testing and operational systems to identify patterns and insights.
- Document methodologies, models, and results through well-structured Python code, reports, and presentations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate data-driven insights into product development and system optimization.
What you need
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with Python and common data science libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, or SciPy.
- Familiarity with machine learning methods and statistical modeling.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

- Experience working with data visualization or dashboarding tools
