About this role

CAD Automation Researcher is a full-time onsite position at universalagi in San Francisco, where the selected professional builds foundation artificial intelligence models to process and optimize engineering geometry. This role suits a specialized researcher with deep learning and computational geometry expertise who wants to eliminate manual bottlenecks in industrial simulation pipelines.

Role Overview

UniversalAGI is hiring a CAD Automation Researcher to work onsite five days a week in San Francisco. The professional collaborates directly with the chief executive officer and founding team to develop artificial intelligence models that convert raw computer-aided design geometry into simulation-ready formats. The position focuses on removing major design bottlenecks by integrating learned geometry representations with physics simulation models.

Key Responsibilities

Create methods to automatically repair, defeature, and simplify raw computer-aided design geometry into formats ready for simulation.
Build general-purpose optimization techniques, including topology optimization, shape optimization, and differentiable design search, operating directly on learned geometry and physics model outputs.
Design and train models such as implicit neural networks, graph neural networks, and diffusion models for geometry generation and reconstruction from incomplete or multi-format inputs.
Manage the workflow from synthetic geometry data generation and training to evaluation and deployment into production simulation pipelines.
Partner directly with company leadership and the physics research group to integrate geometry and optimization models into the broader foundation model stack.
Help establish the technical direction for artificial intelligence-driven geometry generation and share findings internally and externally.

Requirements

Hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Geometry, or a related field, or possess equivalent hands-on industry research experience.
Bring a minimum of two years of experience building deep learning models for geometry processing, computer graphics, computational geometry, or three-dimensional generative modeling.
Demonstrate hands-on understanding of computer-aided design representations, boundary representations, kernels like OpenCASCADE or Parasolid, mesh generation, and healing techniques.
Show a proven research record applying modern architectures like graph neural networks, implicit neural networks, transformers, or diffusion models to three-dimensional geometry or physical design problems.
Maintain practical experience with physical design optimization methods such as topology optimization, shape optimization, or differentiable design search.
Exhibit expert proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or JAX to build and train models from scratch.

Nice to Have

Published research in top-tier venues including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, SIGGRAPH, or CVPR.
Experience working with or extending commercial computer-aided design kernels, computer-aided design software, or computer-aided manufacturing internals.
Familiarity with reinforcement learning or large language model approaches applied to design or geometry automation.
Domain expertise covering aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing design workflows.
Open-source contributions to geometry processing, computer-aided design, or three-dimensional deep learning libraries.
Prior experience working within high-growth artificial intelligence or engineering software startups.
