About this role

Bridging the gap between academic research and production infrastructure is the primary challenge for this new Applied Science Intern. Datadog needs capable talent to help design, scale, and monitor machine learning models that power customer-facing observability features. Working within a cross-functional group of engineers and applied scientists, the incoming intern will research state-of-the-art architectures, analyze large-scale telemetry data, and deploy generative AI capabilities directly into the core platform.

Candidates joining this team will collaborate closely with product partners to turn complex AI concepts into reliable production services. Ideal applicants possess a solid academic foundation in machine learning or related technical fields, paired with practical model-building experience from coursework, research, or past internships. Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and communicates technical ideas clearly will integrate smoothly into the Paris office.

What you will do

  • Design solutions for various AI use cases by researching and benchmarking state-of-the-art models to determine the best technical approach.
  • Build scalable product features utilizing generative AI, statistical techniques, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Contribute to the entire lifecycle of production AI models, services, and infrastructure, including deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Explore, analyze, and derive insights from the high-volume observability data flowing through the platform.
  • Participate in technical knowledge sharing by presenting recent academic research and investigating emerging model architectures.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering and product teams to productionize AI solutions and deliver customer-facing capabilities.

What you need

  • Graduate in 2027 with a degree in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience building machine learning models through personal projects, research, coursework, or internships.
  • Possess strong programming skills alongside a willingness to learn new technologies and programming languages.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Show a strong, demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven product development.
  • Remain available to complete a 6-month internship starting between February and June 2027.
