Role Overview

The Applied AI Engineer position at Business Banking, Cards & Treasury is a full-time engineering role based out of the downtown San Francisco office. This position suits an experienced technologist who wants to build production-grade artificial intelligence systems within a rapidly expanding fintech environment.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver full-stack artificial intelligence features from end to end, spanning prompt engineering, agent orchestration, React user interfaces, and application programming interface integration.

Construct and expand the agent runtime, which includes orchestration, tool execution, Model Context Protocol servers, graph-based conversation states, and context compaction.

Architect and execute multi-surface agent experiences that span web applications, Slack integrations, and programmatic application programming interfaces.

Construct internal artificial intelligence tooling and platforms, model evaluation frameworks, prompt management systems, and large language model observability tools.

Collaborate directly with Anthropic and OpenAI application programming interfaces, the Vercel AI SDK, and custom orchestration layers to resolve challenges in tool-calling, long-context management, and multi-step reasoning.

Enhance and scale artificial intelligence infrastructure, covering inference routing, model tiering, prompt caching, and streaming architecture on AWS and EKS.

Requirements

Demonstrated history of shipping full-stack artificial intelligence products to production environments that serve real users reliably rather than building prototypes.

Proficiency in TypeScript or modern web frameworks such as React, Next.js, and Node.js alongside robust backend fundamentals.

Hands-on experience working with large language model application programming interfaces from providers like Anthropic and OpenAI, including a strong grasp of tool-calling, structured output, and streaming.

A builder mindset capable of iterating quickly and shipping solutions without excessive planning.

Practical background in at least one of the following areas: agent orchestration, Model Context Protocol, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, or model evaluation.
