Role Overview

Pulley seeks its founding AI Operations Engineer to join the engineering team in San Francisco. The professional in this position will create tools, integrations, and automations that integrate the platform with strategic customer systems while developing agents to reduce manual tasks for the permit operations team. Working across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams, the engineer ensures that shipped solutions are secure, reliable, and actively trusted by users.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with account leads and strategic customers to understand rollout processes and integration requirements.

Build secure integrations, data synchronizations, and AI workflows connecting Pulley to external customer systems.

Map internal permit operations workflows with product managers to identify automation opportunities.

Develop lightweight internal agents, tools, and automations to eliminate manual research and administrative burdens.

Establish evaluations and monitoring frameworks to verify AI workflow accuracy and prevent permit rejections.

Translate one-off fixes into reusable tools and playbooks for customers and internal teams.

Relay insights back to product and engineering teams to drive weekly platform improvements.

Requirements

Three or more years of hands-on experience in software engineering, operations engineering, applied AI, or a similar building role.

A computer science or adjacent technical degree.

A demonstrated track record of shipping production-ready AI tools, agents, or automations with a portfolio or examples.

Daily fluency with AI coding and agent tooling such as Claude Code or Cursor.

Strong engineering fundamentals for working with APIs, data, and secure systems.

Experience interacting directly with customers or external stakeholders.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to work in person four days per week.

Nice to Have

Background in construction tech, govtech, proptech, or domains handling messy real-world documents.

Experience developing internal tools or operations tooling like Retool, n8n, Zapier, MCP connectors, or custom solutions.

Experience designing evaluations or reliability methods for production LLM-powered workflows.

Early-stage startup or founder background.

Interest in helping build and lead a future team.
