AI-Assisted Memory Design Intern
About this role
Self-motivated problem-solvers who enjoy exploring the intersection of hardware design and artificial intelligence will find a fitting challenge in this internship. The foundation IP team at Ambiq Micro, Inc. builds low-power semiconductor solutions that enable AI at the edge for wearables, medical devices, and IoT products. This intern will investigate AI-assisted and self-adaptive memory design techniques to dynamically optimize memory operation for better performance, power efficiency, and yield.
The role exists to research how machine learning can enhance conventional memory assist schemes and operating-condition awareness. The chosen candidate will work closely with experienced engineers to analyze failure signatures, develop monitoring techniques, and benchmark novel architectures. Success in this position requires a solid academic foundation in electrical engineering and a genuine curiosity about transistor-level circuit design.
What you will do
- Examine conventional memory assist techniques to see how machine learning-driven optimization improves control logic, supply modulation, and tracking schemes.
- Investigate machine learning methods to analyze operating conditions, spot failure signatures, and predict robustness across various environmental factors.
- Explore self-timed and intelligent memory approaches that learn from real-time conditions to optimize assist decisions for power and yield.
- Build monitoring, prediction, and adaptive control methods to dynamically refine memory assist, voltage, and timing operations.
- Document findings, run benchmarks, and present the proposed self-adaptive memory architecture and design insights to the team.
What you need
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Microelectronics, or a related field as a rising Junior or Senior.
- Required coursework must include Digital Integrated Circuits, Analog Circuit Design, VLSI Design, or Semiconductor Devices.
- Must have completed relevant coursework in Machine Learning, Optimization, Data Analytics, or Computational Methods.
- Requires a basic understanding of CMOS circuit design and integrated circuit layout concepts such as DRC and LVS.
- Must possess working knowledge of Python, basic machine learning concepts including regression and clustering, and comfort handling large datasets.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential for success.
Nice to have
- Exposure to layout and schematic tools like Virtuoso and Calibre, or characterization tools such as SiliconSmart, PrimeTime, and Liberate
- Interest in low-power intellectual property for edge AI and IoT applications
- Strong passion, eagerness, and curiosity to learn and explore transistor-level circuit design
