Carta operates an ML Engineering team embedded within its legal tech platform, which utilizes autonomous AI agents, specialized legal models, document intelligence, and contract workflows. The team performs model development and applied AI work, including post-training open-weight language models on proprietary legal data using supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, and reinforcement learning. Engineers build data pipelines, manage the training stack, and operate production systems such as model serving and evaluation pipelines.
